Major 1 RHR & AACI (retired) Peacefully, in hospital, Perth, following a short illness on Saturday, February 2, 2002 Donald Gibson Armstrong. Loved father of Donna (Ron) Heagle of St. Catharines, John (Betty Jo) of Lanark and Michael (Katherine) of Nepean. Cherished grandfather of Mark (Cathy), Janice (Philip de Roos), Stephen, Donn, Dean and Christopher and great-grandfather of Megan Annemieke de Roos, also survived by his sister Ko Hoppin of Toronto and brother Cameron 'Cam' (Gerry) Armstrong of Perth. Predeceased by his wife Joan (Barton) Armstrong, his parents Ko and Gibson Armstrong, brothers Arthur and Robert Armstrong and grandson David Heagle. Don was a veteran of World War II, serving in Italy and during the liberation of Holland. He made the military his career and was proud to serve as an officer in Black Watch (1RHR) of Canada. Following his retirement from the Armed Forces, Don embarked on a second career as an appraiser and owned the firm of Armstrong & Associates. He was a past master of Edinburgh Masonic Lodge and a Shriner. Don was extremely proud of his Scottish heritage. Friends may pay their respects at the Blair & Son Funeral Home, Perth on Tuesday, February 5, 2002 from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Funeral service will be held in the chapel on Wednesday at 11 a.m. In remembrance, donations to the Foundation of the Great War Memorial Hospital, Perth or the Ottawa Heart Institute would be appreciated.
