At home on Monday, February 25, 2002, at the age of 86. Beloved husband of the late Martha Horniatkevych. As a young man, Mr. Tomashevsky attended architectural college in Kyiv, Ukraine and continued his studies in Brussels and Madrid. He came to Ottawa in 1951 where he worked as an architect for the Ministry of Public Works and, following that, for 20 years with the Ministry of Transportation until his retirement. Among his many achievements, Mr. Tomashevsky was either the chief architect or one of the architects involved in the construction, renovation, or redesign of the following structures: a Roman Catholic seminary in Montreal; a high school in Hull; St. Vincent's Hospital, Ottawa; Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Ukrainian Orthodox Cathedral, Ottawa; Canada House, Ottawa; Rideau Hall, Ottawa; the airports in North Bay, Ontario, Sydney, Nova Scotia, Dorval, Quebec and Terrace, B.C.; and many other government buildings. For many years he was an active and devoted member of Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Ukrainian Orthodox Cathedral, the church he helped design. Friends may call at McEvoy-Shields Funeral Home, 235 Kent Street, on Wednesday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Panachyda on Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. Funeral Service on Thursday at 10 a.m. in the chapel.
