Graduate Empire Test Pilot School, Farnborough, England 1955. Pioneer helicopter pilot, Yukon. Chief Test Pilot, Department of Transport, retired 1983. Pianist and active curler, Rideau Curling Club since 1956. Peacefully, with courage, grace, and dignity, surrounded by his loving family, Walter passed away Monday, March 18th at the University of Ottawa Heart Institute. He is survived by his wife Elaine Robillard Rochon - sons William Laurier (Bill) Gadzos (Erin Turner) and Stephan Gadzos (Joelle Montminy) of Ottawa - step-sons Michel (Mitch) Rochon of Thousand Oaks, CA and Pierre (Pete) Rochon (Jennifer Buell) of Vaudreuil-sur-le-Lac, QC - brothers Ernest of Savannah, GA, and Eugene (Anne) of Dryden, MI - cousins Cecilia Lenard, Paul Lenard and Michelle Borysow of Denver, CO, Joann Hopkins of Brighton MI, Helen Gural, Thunder Bay, April Klein and Carol-Ann Cohen, Thorn Hill - grandsons Madison and Justin Rochon - brothers-in-law Larry Robillard of Montreal, Roger Robillard (Helene Stinson) of Ottawa - sister-in-law Joan Robillard (late Maurice) of Ottawa - nieces and nephews Lucile and Patrick McNulty, Jeffrey (Nancy), Suzanne, Tim (Lori), Josee, Dominique and Patrick (Joanna) Robillard, Kathie and Colin Wright, Redmond Chartrand Jr., Eric, Brian, Diane, Elizabeth and Pierre Robillard. Predeceased by his parents William and Anna Gadzos and brother Paul of Windsor, ON. He instilled his love of classical music and jazz in the younger generation and was very proud of his sons Bill and Stephan who followed his footsteps in his love for aviation. According to his wishes, he was cremated. A memorial service will be held Saturday, March 23rd at 1:00 P.M. at Saint Theresa's Catholic Church (Cartier at Somerset) Ottawa. A reception will follow at the RCAF Officers' Mess (158 Gloucester). Our gratitude goes out to the staff of the Coronary Care Unit and to Dr. Lucile Robillard for her support and devotion during Walter's illness.
