December 26, 1922 - March 20, 2002 Peacefully passed away at St. Joseph's Hospital in Comox, B.C. after a determined battle with cancer. Born and raised in Marysville, N.B., the eldest child of Cyril and Valerie (Hazlett) Grey. In 1940, at the tender age of 17 he joined the Royal Canadian Army (104th Anti-tank Battery) serving in England, France, Germany and Italy during World War II. After the war he returned to Marysville, married and settled into civilian life. In 1953 he joined the Royal Canadian Air Force working in the communications trade with postings in Navan and Carp, Ontario; Mt. Uniacke and Gorsebrook, Nova Scotia. Sgt. Grey retired from the RCAF in 1987 and took up employment with Canada Post in Ottawa. After retiring from the Post Office in 1990, he and his wife Peggy moved to Courtenay, B.C. Left to mourn his passing, a sister Claudia Buchanan, Carleton Place, Ontario and five children; Diana MacDonnell (Mort) and Freda Martin of Courtenay, B.C., Carol Hamelin (Jerry) and James Grey (Sandra) of Ottawa, Ontario; Shirley Out (Peter) of Port Moody, B.C., 13 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren and many nieces, nephews and special friends. He was predeceased by his parents, brother Kingsley of Picton, Ontario; his beloved wife of nearly 55 years, Margaret (Peggy) and a grandson Scott MacDonnell. A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, March 30th at 2:00 p.m. from St. Peter's Anglican Church, 218 Church St., Comox. Arrangements entrusted to COMOX VALLEY FUNERAL HOME AND CREMATION SERVICES, 1101 RYAN ROAD. Flowers gratefully declined in consideration of donations in Fred's memory to the Canadian Cancer Society Cliffe Avenue, Courtenay, B.C. ; St. Joseph's Hospital Foundation, 2137 Comox Avenue, Comox, B.C. or the Poppy Fund, Branch 17, Royal Canadian Legion, 376 Cliffe Avenue, Courtenay, B.C. or the charity of one's choice.
