KUCBEL, Joe 2008-12-11 Three weeks after a wondrous 83rd birthday celebration, our dear Joe passed away at St. Joseph‘s Hospice. Born in Fort William on November 16, 1925, Joe attended St Peter‘s school and FWCI. He served in the Canadian Armed Forces as sergeant. He retired from Canada Post where he was a mail handler. Joe was a lifelong member of the Royal Canadian Legion Slovak Branch 129, and was proud to be an avid member of AA for approximately 38 years where he made many lasting friendships. Joe loved his family and his family loved and adored him, his passion was his wife Lydia, his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. One of his favorite pastimes was his love of dancing with Lydia. He was always on the go, whether it be visiting family or friends, going to yard sales, fishing for salmon in BC or hunting with his buddies. There was nothing that would keep Joe from going on one of his fishing or hunting adventures. Joe had a great sense of humor and always had a story to tell and never was without an interested listener, whether it be family, friend or stranger. He had a knack for relating to everyone and made many friends, as was evident by all the calls and visits on his recent 83rd birthday celebration. Joe will be deeply missed by his loving wife Lydia, children Rick (Paulette), Dan (Janet), Debbie, Lori, Randy and Shelley (Daryl), sisters Mary Kucbel, Theresa Suzick and Elizabeth Maki, grandchildren Kristie (Kyle), Michael, David, Tammy, Sherry, Darrell, Jason, Michelle, Weston, John, Jacob and Dana and great grandchildren Emma, Abby, Donnie, Jordan, Brendan, Megan and Cole. Numerous other family members also survive. He was predeceased by his parents Joseph and Rose Kucbel, six brothers, one sister, three children Barbara, Anthony and Andrew and many other family and friends. Funeral services will be held Friday, December 12, 2008 at 11:30 a.m. at the Blake Funeral Chapel, officiated by Rev. Wayne Bolton s.j. A private family interment will take place in Mountain View Cemetery. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers donations to St. Joseph‘s Hospice or charity of your choice would be greatly appreciated. A tree will be planted in memory of Joseph Kucbel in the Blake Funeral Chapel Memorial Grove. Annual dedication service Sunday, June 28, 2009. On-line Condolences may be sent to www.blakefuneralchapel.com
