CHARLEBOIS, Daniel Albert 2008-12-13 Sept. 4, 1932 – Dec. 8, 2008 Sadly, on Monday, December 8, 2008, Daniel Albert Charlebois, at 76 years old, passed away peacefully in his home in Thunder Bay, Ontario. Dan began his life as the first son born to Viola (Maley) and Albert Charlebois after three brilliant sisters, Valerie, Pat and Jean. Nieces and nephews – all 25 – knew that Dan claimed he was a genius in his own right, especially whenever he won a game of chess with his sister Val. Dan‘s younger sister, Marjorie (Ferguson) admired her protective brother for his compassionate heart and loving guidance. At an early age, Dan joined the Navy for a couple of years and then later he worked for the Canadian Pacific Railroad (CPR) until he retired at age 55. Throughout the years, Dan visited Valerie and Graig Boileau and their children Janice, Karen, Robert, David, Christopher, Linda, Mary Anne, Jacqueline and Paul in Atikokan. Always a loyal union man, Dan‘s passionate views ignited any discussion and so grand times were the rule. Dan also frequently visited his sister Jean and John Bulger and their children Kathy, Valerie, Dan Jim, Pat, Lori, Joe and Mark in Toronto. There he entertained one and all with jokes and stories that he liberally embellished with dramatic voices, comical actions and impeccable timing. Every fall, Dan journeyed westward to Victoria, BC to visit his sister Pat and Glen Isberg and their children Kenneth, Greg, Brian and Sandy. Sharing delicious seafood with sister Pat was a culinary highlight. Back in Thunder Bay, Dan loved to go on fishing trips with his nephews David and Paul. Marjorie and Alex Ferguson‘s three children Sandra, Wayne and David knew their Uncle Dan could be counted on to call a spade a spade. Throughout his life, he earned his reputation as a man of courage that stood by the forgotten through his work with St. Vincent de Paul and Alcoholics Anonymous (AA). Until the end, long time neighbours, Millie Fodchuk, June Park and Mike Roarco and others shared cookies, coffee and laughter at their homes on Centre Avenue. Thank you Dan for your genuine heartfelt ways. We will love you always. Funeral Services will be held at 12:10 p.m. on Friday, December 19, 2008 in St. Agnes‘ Church, 1019 Brown St. in Thunder Bay, celebrated by Rev. James Panikulam. Interment will follow in Mountain View Cemetery. A tree will be planted in memory of Mr. Daniel Charlebois in the Blake Funeral Chapel Memorial Grove. Annual dedication service Sunday, June 29, 2008.
