LYON, Jo-Anne Carrel 2008-12-18 Jo-Anne Carrel Lyon, aged 55, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family Friday December 12, 2008 following a courageous battle with cancer. Jo-Anne was born January 27, 1953 in Fort William at McKellar General Hospital, the first daughter to Kenneth and Irene Brown and the 4th of 8 siblings, 2 sisters and 5 brothers. She was raised in Westfort and attended Heath Park and Westgate Collegiate. Jo-Anne put herself through university, attending the University of Western Ontario where she earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Foods and Nutrition. Jo-Anne completed her internship in Moncton, New Brunswick and became a Registered Professional Dietitian following her acceptance into the Canadian College of Dietitians. Jo-Anne’’s family was her life and while she did work part time in her chosen profession in the later years, she stayed at home to raise her children in their formative years. And raise her children she did - Sunday school, piano, scouts, girl guides summers at the family cottages at Oliver Lake and Shebandowan Lake and then there were the sports, tennis, baseball, soccer, football, hockey, downhill skiing, ski jumping and cross country and figure skating. Jo-Anne was a great sport and loved to participate as well. She enjoyed skiing, sailing, tennis, curling, travel, art and cooking. Through all this she found time to give back to the community through volunteer work with Jacetts and fundraisers such as the Hope Classic. Jo-Anne had an adventurous side as well and during her university years she backpacked through Europe - twice and traveled to Jamaica and to Trinidad and Tobago. Jo-Anne had a great sense of humor but most of all she enjoyed the simple things in life, sunsets, the outdoors, scenic drives, popcorn and a movie and always with family. Jo-Anne is survived by her loving husband of 29 years, John, 3 sons, Curtis, Nelson and Conor and her daughter Trista, her mother Irene Brown, brothers, James (Darlene), Larry, Robert (Debbie), John (Donna) and Glen (Teri) and sisters, Beverley (Wayne Mills) and Diane Morriseau (Tym Ketchabaw) and families. A memorial service will be held to celebrate the life of Jo-Anne Carrel Lyon, Thursday, December 18, 2008 at 11:00 am at the First Presbyterian Church Officiated by Reverend Mark McLennan. In lieu of flowers donations to the Northern Cancer Research Foundation would be greatly appreciated. "Just think of her as living In the hearts of those she touched. For nothing loved is ever lost And she was loved so much." Please sign the online condolences at everestofthunderbay.com
