Mr. John Guthrie Bowman September 3, 1923 - December 8, 2008 Bowman, John Guthrie, RCAF Veteran (424 Squadron) Died peacefully on December 8, 2oo8 in his 86th year, predeceased by his loving wife of 58 years Mary (May) nee McAvoy. Dear father of Diane Waloff (Gino Totti) of Ottawa, Nancy (Jeff Fabian) of Newmarket and Joanne (John Algie) of Ottawa. Loving grandfather of Katie (Ryan Gibbons) of Mount Albert, Paul and Alex Fabian of Newmarket, Iain and Malcolm Algie of Ottawa. Great-grandfather of Alyssa May Margaret Gibbons. Brother of Chris Bowman (deceased) and Nancy (Ted Booth). Born in Cowdenbeath, Scotland and raised in Hamilton, John spent his retirement years, cottaging in Huntsville and wintering in Florida. John was an employee of Stelco for over 37 years. He enjoyed golfing with many friends at Dundas Valley (Hamilton), Deerhurst (Huntsville) and the Plantation Golf & Country Club (Venice, Florida). Near and dear to his heart, were the many happy days spent with friends and family at OxBow Lake and in Florida. Always a fun-loving guy, he enjoyed roller skating, dancing, stamp collecting, gardening, skiing, cards, camping, photography, curling, boating, fishing, traveling and socializing at local Legions. An avid driver, he took enormous pleasure in his many car trips, across Canada and the USA. He especially enjoyed a Golden Anniversary trip with May via the Q.E. II to England, returning on the Concorde. The family extends sincerest appreciation for the compassionate and dedicated care given by Julie Kyte and the staff at the Barton Retirement Residence (Newmarket), the Day Centre (Newmarket) and the staff at Bradford Valley Nursing Home. John will be dearly missed and forever remembered in our hearts. "Tilt your tam And think o’ me when e’er Ye hae a wee dram" At his request, there will be no visitation or memorial service. Donations may be made in John’s memory to the Heart & Stroke Foundation or the Alzheimer Society.
