MONROE, John Forbes January 29th, 1921 - October 27th 2005 Peacefully, on October 27th 2005, in his 85th year. Forbes was the only son of the late Winnifred Edna Forbes and Franklin Alexander Monroe of Ottawa. Devoted husband for over 62 years of Jessie Bernice (Bunny) Wight, loving father of Robin Lee, Murray and Cameron. He was the proud and loving grandfather of Watson and Duncan McLeish, Lindsay, Morgan Monroe and David Monroe. Lovingly remembered by family and friends, Forbes was born in Ottawa and received his early education there, graduating from Glebe Collegiate where he was awarded the Ronald Ames Trophy for scholarship and athletics. He then attended Queen's University (Engineering), married his love Bunny in 1943, and subsequently joined the navy. Initially stationed in Halifax, he lived through the Halifax ammunition depot explosion of 1945. Returning to Ottawa at the end of World War 2, he rose through the ranks of the Defense Department until retiring in 1980. During this period, he played football with the Ottawa Roughriders, and competed in tennis tournaments nation wide, winning a number of championships. Following his retirement, Bunny and Forbes travelled extensively throughout Canada and internationally. Forbes continued playing tennis, golf, curling and skiing for many years. He lives on in the hearts and minds of his loving family and friends. Published in the Ottawa Citizen from 10/29/2005 - 11/1/2005
