Mrs. Helga Dawson March 10, 1938 - December 12, 2008 DAWSON - It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Helga Lilja Dawson on Friday, December 12th, 2008, surrounded by her family. Helga is survived by her loving and devoted husband of 49 years, Douglas, of Saskatoon; son Keith (Maria) and grandchildren Anna-Lilja, Mackenzie, Parker and Frazer of Saskatoon, and son Russell (Melody) and grandchildren Alexandra and Samuel of Prince George, BC. She also is lovingly remembered by her brother Eric (Kay) Johannson; sister Margaret (Don) Ottmann; sisters-in-law Lillian Johannson, Joyce Johannson and Helen Johannson; brother-in-law Harold Garrish; aunts Anna Helgason and Joanne Terrian, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents, Jonas & Lily Johannson, brothers Arnie, Elmer, Herbert, Chris, Dave and sisters Olaf and Johanna. Helga was born on March 10, 1938, at the family farm in the Margo district where she spent her early years. She began her education at McKinley School and completed her education in Wadena when the family moved there. She then attended the College of Nursing at the University of Saskatchewan, and convocated in 1959. Helga and Doug were married that year and made their home in Canora where she nursed at the Canora Union Hospital. They moved to Hyas, on to Dauphin and eventually to Saskatoon in 1972. Throughout these years, Helga continued her nursing career as Matron at Norquay Hospital, and worked as a Nursing Unit Manager at Frank Eliason Centre and Parkridge Centre in Saskatoon for many years before retiring in 2002. While she was devoted to her career, her family was the most important thing to her. Helga was truly a life-long companion of Doug’s, and together they shared many happy times during summers at Crystal Lake. She was proud of her sons, welcomed her daughters-in-law and loved her grandchildren dearly. Helga was an excellent cook with many fine recipes and would not hesitate to prepare new dishes for her family. Gardening provided her with many hours of enjoyment, she had a beautiful yard and took pleasure in giving tours of it. We would like to thank everyone at St. Paul’s Hospital for the exceptional care that they provided for Mom. We are especially grateful to the nurses in the Intensive Care Unit for the kindness and compassion that they showed our family during this difficult time. The Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, December 18th, 2008 at 2:00 p.m. at Hillcrest Funeral Home (east on 8th Street, turn right before railway crossing). Burial will take place at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens. Family and friends may send email condolences from the website www.hillcrestmemorial.ca.
