Robert Arthur Hetherington January 22, 1955 - December 12, 2008 HETHERINGTON, Robert Arthur January 22, 1955 –December 12, 2008 Much to the sadness of his family, Robert died suddenly at age 53 in Qatar where he was the Learning Coordinator, Human Resources for Qatar Petroleum. Robert was born in Fort Macleod, AB and later moved to Edmonton at age 13, when his father was transferred. He was an exceptionally good athlete and excelled at baseball and hockey. Growing up he played both AA Midget and Juvenile for the Knights of Columbus, Edmonton. As a young man, Robert enlisted in the Canadian Forces. He was a member of the 8th Hussars and also served on peacekeeping missions in Cypress. After serving in the army, Robert began a career in the oil and gas industry, working for such companies as Gulf Oil and Talisman, and also working as an independent contractor, forming his own company, Hetherington Consulting Ltd. In 1997 Robert moved to the Middle East where he met Gui “Annie” Jing. They later married and spent many happy days together, especially endless hours of shopping and traveling. They had recently traveled to China and had a wonderful time seeing the sights, dining and meeting Gui’s family. Robert was a very special man. He was independent, good hearted and most of all generous. All of us who had the pleasure of knowing him realized he loved a good debate! Christmas was a very special time for Robert. No matter where he was in the world, he would try to find his way home at this time of year, and when he arrived was always laden with gifts. His suitcase was packed with gifts and he was to come home again for Christmas this year. Robert will be greatly missed and is survived by his loving wife Gui “Annie” Jing; his parents Arthur & Margaret Hetherington; sisters E. Ann Falk and Patricia Hetherington-Keys; niece Heather Watson-Cameron (Scott); nephews Ryan Hetherington-Keys and Michael Hetherington-Keys (Vancouver); great niece Elizabeth Cameron; aunt Peggy Markle (Claresholm); cousin Colin Markle (Sherry) (Claresholm), and relatives in England.
