Mr. John F. Shunamon May 17, 1918 - December 15, 2008 SHUNAMON, John F. Bedford, passed away peacefully in Melville Gardens Assisted Living Facility, Halifax, on Monday, December 15, 2008. Born in Beaver Bank on May 17, 1918, he was in his 91st year. He was the oldest son of the late Ernst and Frances (Grove) Shunamon. John joined the work force at any early age, working in the woods and at Barrett's Mill. He then discovered his love of mechanics. He was one of the founding members of Nova Automotive and was known as one of the best engine rebuilders around. After retiring he worked for Asburn Golf Course in Fall River as a groundskeeper, a job which he thoroughly loved. He loved camping, fishing, hunting, and above all, a good card game. John is survived by his loving wife, May (Densmore) (Hennigar) Shunamon; stepchildren, Dwight, Beth (Dyson), Mitchell (Judy), Wade (Rhona) and grandchildren, Kent (Alana), Matthew (Fiona), Codey, Mandy, Owen "O.J.", Chandra, Alyssa, Jordan, Kelsey and Alison. He is also survived by stepson, Bernard (Irene) Barrett and grandchildren, Kevin (Sonja) and Valerie (Aiden) from his first marriage. He is survived by his sister, Bertha Hankey, who John adored and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by sisters, Edith and Violet; brothers, Clarence, Alfred and Clyde. He was also predeceased by his first wife, Marion (Barrett) Shunamon "Nellie". Cremation has taken place. Funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, December 18, in The Church of the Good Shepherd, Beaver Bank. Reception to follow in the church hall.
