KOSKELA, Veikko (Vic) Erland - Vic Koskela passed away in the arms of his loving family Friday, December 13th, 2008 at St. Joseph's Hospital, Thunder Bay, Ontario. This was the last stop at the end of his recent difficult journey that included stays in Nipigon Memorial, Hamilton General, and Thunder Bay Regional Hospitals. Veikko, the son of Linda and Juho Koskela (predeceased), was born on October 12th, 1920 in Copper Cliff, Ontario and lived his early years in Wanup, Ontario. On July 1st, 1944, he and his beloved Ann (predeceased in 2001) were wed in Nemegos, Ontario and began their married life in White River. Vic was employed by the Canadian Pacific Railway Company as a Signal Maintainer for 36 years, in White River until 1950 and in Nipigon until his retirement in 1980. Vic and Ann, married for 57 years, are now 'together forever“. With their 3 children Linda (Mike) Lough of Dryden, Ontario, Richard (Cathy) Koskela of Cambridge, Ontario and Gayle (Tom) Lock of Thunder Bay, the foundation was laid for Veikko to be a proud Pappa to 8 grandchildren; Lorrie Lough, Debbie Campbell (Mark), Jeff Lough (Lisa), Jason Koskela (Courtney), Rebecca Law (Geoff), Barry Kingston (Trish), Jennifer Lock, Katie Lock, and loving “Iso Pappa“ to 9 great grandchildren; Kevin and Michelle Williams, Krista Bannan, Bobbi and Tommy Lough, Danielle and Rachel Cordoni, Dexter and Rennick Koskela. Predeceased by beloved sisters Toini and Irja, Veikko will be greatly missed and affectionately remembered by his brother Taisto and sister-in-law Millie of Falconbridge, Ontario and his nieces Kathy (Dean), Karyn (Glen) and nephew Kalvin (Christy) and families. Special memories are held by Linda Salonen and her daughter Diana (Lady Di) Dyck. Veikko will also be remembered by Florence Lehtinen and family, the Kolppanen family and several relatives in Finland. Vic cherished his family and friends and times shared with them were always filled with laughter and affection. Always an active person, Vic enjoyed bowling, skiing, gardening and daily walks. He especially treasured time spent at Camp Mazookama. In retirement, he participated in Hike for Health and Silver Club activities. His pasttimes included jigsaw puzzles, reading (especially Finnish newspapers), and watching Mike Duffy and Lawrence Welk on T.V. A visitation will be held from 4 pm to 8 pm at ELLIOTT FUNERAL HOME in Nipigon on Tuesday, December 16th, 2008. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, December 17th, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. at Grace United Church, Nipigon, Roberta Beyer RDLM officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Nipigon Memorial Hospital or to the charity of your choice. 11356551
