BERRY, Eva 1910 - 2005 With sadness we announce the death of our mother, Eva E. Berry on Saturday, December 10, 2005, six days before her 95th birthday, from complications of a stroke three weeks earlier. Eva was predeceased by her husband of 56 years, Robert A. Berry, her parents, David and Hannah Cossman and her nine brothers and sisters. Left with wonderful memories of her dynamic presence are her daughter Anne Berry and her husband Michael Diduch and her son David Berry and his wife Elizabeth and daughter, Sarah. Eva was born in North Sydney, NS and raised in Montreal where she attended McGill University. In World War II, she served as a captain in the Canadian Women's Army Corps working with the Interservice Committee for Protection of Prisoners of War in Enemy Hands and with the relocation of British war brides in Canada. After the war, she married and established a family. Once her children were in school, Eva pursued her interests in broadcasting with the CBC. In 1960, she was elected to the Ottawa Board of Education where she served until 1974. Eva participated on the Canadian Council for Research in Education and the Ontario Trustee and Rate Payers Association. Eva also worked part-time at the Canadian Journal of Genetics and Cytology. From 1976 to 1984, Eva was chairperson of the Unemployment Insurance Board of Referees. She also participated on many committees including the Ottawa Library Board and the Board of Education Advisory Board. In retirement, she shared many interests with her husband including extensive travel, continuing education, and theatre and opera. We would like to thank the wonderful staff at the Colonel By Retirement Residence where Eva made her home during the last six years of her life. Many became her best friends. At Eva's request, funeral arrangements will be private. In memoriam donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Ontario at 200-1900 Merivale Road, Ottawa, ON K2G 4N4.
