SASSEVILLE, Denis Joseph Andre - It is with great sorrow that the family of Denis (The Big Den) Sasseville announces his passing on Tuesday, November 25, 2008 at the Kirkland District Hospital at the age of 67 years, after a short courageous battle with cancer with his family by his side. Born in Earlton, Ontario, “Denny“ grew up in Swastika, and has resided on Brown Avenue in Kirkland Lake for the past 35 years. He took great pride in caring for his neighbours. Following the family tradition, he worked for the Ontario Northland Railway as a Track Maintainer for 36 years. After retirement, he worked for his friends Don and Polly Strachan. He was an avid fan of the Montreal Canadiens and loved every aspect about hockey. Denis was predeceased by his father Andy in 1997. He will be sadly missed by his mother, Emerilda, his sons Kevin “Bearcat“ and Jimmy. His granddaughter Jaylin will extremely miss her “Poppa“. Also left to mourn are his brothers, Norman (Marjorie), Desire (Doreen) and sister Alice (John Landriault) and his nephews Moe (Patti), Danny, Christopher, his niece, Tara (Robert Thomas) and his great-nephews Raiden & Rylan Thomas and Ryan Sasseville. He will also be missed by Sherry and Mike Carston and Nina Sasseville and his many close relatives residing in Quebec. A Funeral Mass will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 29, 2008 at Holy Name of Jesus Parish (Corner of Kirkland St. & Lebel Avenue, Kirkland Lake) with Fr. Wayne Mills officiating. Denis will be laid to rest in the Kirkland Lake Cemetery in the spring of 2009. Donations in Denis' memory may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society (38 Government Rd.
