Lucy Gertrude Power, 94, wife of the late Terrence Power, of 35 Church Street, Miramichi, NB, died peacefully at Miramichi Regional Hospital surrounded by family on November 16, 2008. Born in St. Margaret's, she was the daughter of the late James and Alice (Cook) Hackett. Lucy graduated from Provincial Normal School in Fredericton in 1932 and taught school for many years in Kouchibouguac and Chatham. She attended St. Michael's Basilica and was a life member of the CWL. She was a member of the retired Teachers' Association and volunteered at Mount St Joseph's, Meals on Wheels and as a literacy teacher. She is survived by 7 children: Shirley (Ron) Currie, Markham, ON; Joan (Allan) Bartlett, Charlottetown; Lucy Carriere, Ottawa; Bob Power (David Ng), Fredericton; Paula (Brian) Forbes, Fredericton; Margery Power, Miramichi; Terry Power, Hardwicke. Ten grandchildren: Jennifer Bitar, Andrew, Rebecca and Daniel Bartlett; Stuart and Richard Currie; Antoine Carriere; Chantal Hamilton; Erin Forbes; Ryan Trevors and eight great grandchildren. She is also survived by her sisters, Marguerite Wilson, Fredericton and Clara Bransfield, St. Margaret's, one brother Jim (Audrey) Hackett, Hamilton, brother in-law Thomas (Anna) Power, Miramichi and sister in-law Anna Dunn, Colgan, ON. Lucy was predeceased by sisters Lillian Hackett, Teresa Wallace, Helen Zolobka and Mary Dickson, and brothers Gerald, Jack, Harold and Bill. Visitation was held on Monday Nov 17th 7pm-9pm and Tuesday Nov 18th 2pm-4pm and 7pm-9pm from Maher's Funeral Home, 35 University Ave, Miramichi, NB. The funeral mass was held at St. Michael's Basilica at ll am Wednesday, November 19th with Fr John Fraser officiating. Readings by Shirley Currie, Betty Cutcliffe,. Intercessions were by Erin Forbes and Rebecca Bartlett, Eulogy by Jennifer Bartlett. Active Pallbearers were Andrew Bartlett, Daniel Bartlett, Antoine Carriere, Ryan Trevors, Michael Cutcliffe, Robert Cutcliffe. Honorary Pallbearers were caregivers: Sue Lawson, Gerry Stewart, Gertie Doyle, Mona Waye, Jean Jardine, Josephine Howe, Donna Washburn, Sharon Best, Heather Watt, Lottie McLenaghan. Also Bob Wilson, Danny Hackett, Jim Hackett, Mary Stewart, John Dickson, Karen Arsenault, Janet Wallace, Wayne Power, Leo Sullivan, Ben Flanagan, Blake Johnstone, Al Johnstone, Donna Chaisson, Fred Chaisson, Noonan Gorman, Bernice Dorcas. St Michael's CWL and the Retired teachers formed a guard of honor. Hymns by ST. Michael's Senior Choir. Internment was in St. Michael's Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to Miramichi Alzheimer Society, or charity of donor's choice. Funeral arrangements are under the care of Maher's Funeral Home Miramichi, NB.
