Mr. Gerald Sterling (Chick) Henderson, husband of the late Eleanor Henderson of 256 Water Street, Miramichi, passed away Wednesday, November 19, 2008, at Miramichi Regional Hospital, at the age of 83. Born in Chatham Head, NB, he was the son of the late John R. & Marguerite (Cassidy) Henderson. He was retired from Henderson's Store and had been a bus driver for over 27 years. Gerald was a member of St James & St John United Church and the last surviving member of his immediate family. Chick was a former coach of Chatham Head Tigers, coach of Newcastle Minor Hockey, member of Chatham Head Golden Age Club, former member of Miramichi Golf & Country Club, member of St John Ambulance, member of the Miramichi Sports Wall of Fame, member of NB Baseball Hall of Fame, member of Chatham Head Old Timers Baseball Association, member of Newcastle Carpet Bowlers, member of Newcastle Senior Bowlers. He also was an avid fisherman and hunter. He is survived by one daughter, Diana Henderson of Miramichi; one son, Danny (Alice) Henderson of Miramichi; one grandchild, Mary-Ann (Rodney) Greenwood. He was predeceased by his parents; his wife, Eleanor; and one infant son; and one brother, Waldo Henderson. Mr. Gerald Sterling (Chick) Henderson rested at Davidson's Funeral Home, 597 Old King George Hwy., Miramichi, with visitation Thursday evening from 7-9 pm and Friday 2-4 & 7-9 pm. The Funeral Service was held Saturday, November 22, 2008 at 11 am from St James & St John United Church, Miramichi, with Rev. John Fraser officiating, assisted by Rev. Ron Feltmate. Organist was David Bunnell. Hymns were "Peace in the Valley" and "I've Got a Mansion". Soloist Borden B. Davidson rendered "In the Garden". Readings were by granddaughter, Mary-Ann Greenwood and daughter-in-law, Alice Henderson. A eulogy was given by his daughter, Diana Henderson. Burial followed in Miramichi Cemetery. At the request of the family, donations to NB Heart & Stroke Foundation, St James & St John United Church Organ Fund, or a memorial of one's choice would be appreciated. Active Pallbearers were: Joe Comeau, David Sisk, Richard Roy, Wally Henderson, Gary Goguen and Paul Davidson.
