HANORAH “NINA” WHELAN (NEE FINNERTY) Whelan- The Whelan family announces with sorrow the death of Hanorah “Nina” Whelan (nee Finnerty) at the age of 102. Nina was born on March 9th, 1902 in Killaloe, Ontario and was a resident of Kirkland Lake since 1928. She passed away very peacefully at the Kirkland and District Hospital on May 31st, 2004 with her family at her side. Nina worked as a Registered Nurse in the United States for several years prior to moving to Kirkland Lake where she continued her career as a nurse. She was a life long member of the Holy Name Parish and the C.W.L., Nina was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She was predeceased by her parents Michael Finnerty and Alice Sullivan, her husband Michael Whelan and siblings Leo, Dominic, Jerome, Michael, Harold, Basil, Elizabeth, Ambrose and Annie. Nina was also predeceased by her sons David, Howard, Maurice, Jack and daughter-in-law Kay and grandsons David, Michael, Jimmy and baby John David. She is survived by her daughter Helena and husband Jim Purdon, sons Paul and wife Margaret, Michael and wife Sandy and her daughters-in-law, Yvonne, Joan and Colleen. Also survived by her grandchildren, Kim, Karen, Howie, Michael, Traysea, Terry, Richard, Catherine, Joanne, Danny, Jamie, Erin, Kerry, Shane, Mary Katherine, Eric, Shannon, Lee, Corlea, Mark, David, and Shawn and great grandchildren Christopher, Steven, Jarod, Amanda, Jack, Michael, Hannah, Ryan, Stephen, Jeremy, Nicolas, Jordan, Taylor, Connor, Beau, Jack, Margeau, Siobhan, Taelan, Logan, Jennifer, Kayla, Shana, Brooklyn, Kelsey, Zeb, Bronti, Nadia, and Ryan and her great-great granddaughter Jaden. The Whelan family will welcome friends at the Monette & French Funeral Home on Wednesday, June 2, 2004 from 2:00 to 4:00 pm and from 7:00 to 9:00 pm. The funeral mass will be celebrated in the Church of Holy Name of Jesus on Thursday, June 3, 2004 at 11:00 am followed by interment in the Kirkland Lake Cemetery.
