(JAMES) AUGUST HERMAN KASNER 1915 - 2004 KASNER - It is with sadness that the family announces the passing of James Kasner in his 89th year at the Kirkland and District Hospital on May 7th, 2004. Born in Shelbrooke, Saskatchewan, Jim was a long-time resident of the area having set up residence in Kirkland Lake in 1938 to begin a career as an underground miner in the Kirkland Lake, Elliott Lake, Sudbury and Shebandowan mining camps and with retirement, moving to Kenogami in 1978. Jim was an avid fisherman, known in mining circles as a miner’s miner and a World War II veteran seeing active duty from 1939 to 1945. Jim was predeceased by his late wife Dorris in 1999, father Herman; mother Emma; sisters Mary, Emma, Gertrude; brothers Bill, Charles and Edward. Jim is survived by his sister-in-law Marie; sons Robert (Eveline), Donald (Carmen), Glenn (Diane) and daughter Linda (Gerry); grandchildren Robert Jr. (Lori), Donald (Jen), Shawn (Heather), Kim (Robert), Amanda and David; great-grandchildren Bailey, Tasha, Carter, Chase, Elle, Mason and Mason. At Jim’s request, no service will be held. Following cremation, Jim will be interred beside his wife in the Kirkland Lake Cemetery at a later date.
