It is with profound sorrow that the family of Emily Helen Dorrance inform you of her death in the early hours of June 11, 2004. Emily was predeceased by both her husbands, Peter J Malnerich and Stanley G Dorrance, her parents John and Helen Popovic and her brothers John and Peter Popovic. She will be sadly missed by her daughter Emily Malnerich of Toronto, Ontario, her son John (Jim) Malnerich and his wife Beverly of North Bay, Ontario, her granddaughter Leanne (Eric) Nielson of Kirkland Lake, Ontario, her grandson John (Shelagh) Malnerich of Cambridge, Ontario, her great grandsons Andrew Nielson and Justin Malnerich, her great granddaughters Kate Nielson and Sarah Malnerich, her sisters Mary (Karl) Winter of Kitchener Ontario, Carol Vukovich of Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario and Zorica (Momir) Vukovic of Ljubljana, Slovenia and her many friends of all ages. She was dearly loved by all. Emily was born in Suhor, Slovenia on August 24, 1921 and came to Kirkland Lake, Ontario as a young bride in the winter of 1938. Together with her husband Peter they operated a boarding house for miners in Kirkland Lake and shortly thereafter built and operated the Kenogami Hotel and the Kenogami Garage. After Peter’s death in 1949 she continued to operate the hotel until 1954 when she moved back to Kirkland Lake with her two children. In 1959 she purchased the Bellevue Hotel in Kirkland Lake and operated it until 1965 when she moved to Chatham, Ontario where she remained in the hotel business with her husband Stanley. When they left Chatham they operated hotels in Cornwall, Ontario, New Liskeard, Ontario and North Bay, Ontario. After Stanley’s death in 1996 she continued to operate the Pinewood Park Motor Inn until her retirement in 1998. According to her wishes her remains have been cremated and her ashes will be interred in the Kirkland Lake Cemetery.
