The memorial service for lifelong Hearst resident Larry Franklin Turner, 54, is to be held (tomorrow) May 20, 2004. He died May 15 at home. Born Dec. 28, 1949 in Hearst, he attended Hearst High School from 1965-68, and from 1981-82, Northern College in Kirkland Lake. A Branch 173 Hearst Legion affiliate member, he was active with Hearst's community curling club, where he was at times icemaker, Little Rockers and bantams coach, drawmaster for leagues and spiels, and men's team skip. Described by family as sensitive, comical, generous, a good father, and avid Toronto Maple Leafs fan, he enjoyed fishing, outdoor activities, the family cottage, and cooking. Predeceased by his father John Turner in Sault Ste. Marie, as well as uncles and aunts, he leaves his wife Janice Newsome, mother Doreen Turner, son Jeffrey and daughter Jessie Turner, all of Hearst. Also surviving are his sister Florence (Ed) Allerton of Omaha, Nebraska, and brothers Jonathan (Patti) of Louisville, Kentucky, and Ken (Monica) Turner of Milton, Ont. Cremation was done at Hillcrest Crematorium. Rev. Douglas Richardson is to direct the 10:30 a.m. service at Notre-Dame-de-l'Assomption Cathedral.
