Funeral services for retired Hearst resident Arthur Joseph Samson, 75, of 1429 Alexandra St. were held March 4, 2004. He died March 2 at Notre-Dame Hospital after a brief battle with cancer. Born May 22, 1928 in Rivière-au-Renard, Quebec, he came to the area around 1950. A cutter for Selin Forest Products, Spruce Falls in Kapuskasing, and later Newaygo Forest Products in Mead, he was described as a practical joker and sociable person. He wasa member of the Club soleil des aîné-e-s seniors club and Club Solo. Predeceased by his father Joseph Samson in Quebec, companion Marie Audet in Hearst and brother-in-law Jean Filiatreau of Montreal, he leaves his mother Gertrude Samson of St-Anaclet, Que., his sisters Rita Filiatreau of Laval and Cécile (Claude) Leboeuf of St-Anaclet, and brothers Armand (Jeannine) of Hearst and Roger (Lucie) Samson of Dorval. Rev. Rémi Lessard directed the afternoon service at Notre-Dame-de-l'Assomption Cathedral. Cremation followed after the service.
