Funeral services for Constance Lake elder Thomas Joseph Ferris of the Sunrise Centre home were held Feb. 7, 2004 at this First Nation community. He died Feb. 1 at age 70. Born June 12, 1933 in English River, he worked as a pulp cutter for contractor Laurent Gagné, and enjoyed hunting, fishing and trapping. He was predeceased by parents Sophia and John Ferris (1981), sisters Cecile Ferris, Jane Mattinas, Sophia Ferris and Alice Wesley, and a brother Gaius Ineese. Surviving are sisters Assan (Sinclair) Taylor, Kathleen (Mike) Shaganash, and Lottie Ferris, all of Constance Lake, and Elizabeth Ferris of Longlac, and brothers Arthur and Sandy Ineese, James Ferris, Mark (Marlene Esquimaix) Ferris and Allen (Helen) Ferris, all of Constance Lake, as well as many nieces and nephews. Rev. Douglas Richardson of Hearst directed the afternoon service at St. Stephens Anglican Church. Interment followed at the Constance Lake burial ground.
