Wally Waslyk passed away at the Smooth Rock Falls Hospital on Tuesday, Jan. 20, 2004. He was 84 years-old. Mr. Waslyk was born in Fish Creek, Saskatchewan on Apr. 16, 1919. He was a resident of Smooth Rock Falls from 1947 and worked as an employment supervisor at Abitibi, retiring after 35 years of service with the company, in 1982. His favorite pastimes were reading, watching TV and travelling. He was described as a loving and dedicated husband, father and grandfather. Mr. Waslyk is survived by his wife, Jeannine of Smooth Rock Falls, two sons; Ken (Jill) of Edmonton and John (Darlene) of Smooth Rock Falls, two daughters; Kathleen Taylor (Yvon) and Leslie Gagnon (Denis), both of Smooth Rock Falls. He is also survived by grandchildren, Jennifer, Christopher, Todd, Jessica, Karen, Eric, Dylan, James and David and by sister, Mary Desmoreau (Ray) of Hamilton. Mr. Waslyk was predeceased by two sisters; Anna Lucyk and Catherine Cherwinski. Visitation will be held at Ste-Gertrudeís Church in Smooth Rock Falls on Thurs., Jan. 22, from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be held at Ste-Gertrudeís Church on Fri., Jan. 23 at 2 p.m. Interment will take place in the spring at the Smooth Rock Falls Cemetery.
