AAVASALMI, VILJO 1915-2004 Peacefully on Monday July 12th, 2004 at the Timmins & District Hospital in his 90th year. Beloved husband of Laina at home. Loving father of Helena (Edward) Piecuch of Stoney Creek, Tapani (Susan) Aavasalmi of Aurora, Henry (Janice) Aavasalmi of Mississauga and Hilkka Aavasalmi of Toronto. Cherished Paappa of Christopher Piecuch & Katrina (Paul) Gillott, Niles Aavasalmi, Lisa Caron, Kristen (Steve) Sullivan, Karyn Aavasalmi & David Aavasalmi. He also leaves great grandchildren Jami, Tiana, Danica, Brinnly, Dax, Aidyn, Garner, and Karlisle. Viljo was predeceased by his first wife Aini (1944), his son Pauli (1938) and his sister Vieno Tehila (1995). He was born in Isokyrö, Finland and had been a resident of the Porcupine Camp since 1951 having been employed by Dome Mines Ltd. for over 25 years. Viljo had served in the Finnish Army from 1940 to 1944. Remembrance donations will be graciously received in his memory to St. John’s Lutheran Church or Kulta Koti Finnish Seniors Home through the funeral home. A funeral service to celebrate his life will be held at St. John’s Lutheran Church with Rev. Jouko Paukkunen officiating on Thursday July 15th, 2004 at 11 a.m.
