(Blackie) - Peacefully on Monday June 7, 2004 in his 83rd year; Beloved husband and best friend of Joanne; Loving father of Judy and Randy.Ê Predeceased by his first wife Margaret and survived by their children, Joe and Tom.Ê Also predeceased by his two sisters, Vera and Gwen (Bill), and his brother Eric (Stella). Dear Grampa of Andrew, Amanda, Bryan and Emma. Survived by his sister-in-law Bonnie and brother-in-law Bob. Fondly remembered by Jim and Helen. ÊBorn in Battersea, London, England, Les came to Canada with his family at the age of 3 and lived in Fort Erie for a few years before moving to Niagara Falls where he had lived since.Ê As a young man he worked as a Car Man's helper and oiler for CN Railway and then served overseas in England, Italy and Northwestern Europe in the Canadian Army during World War II from July 1942 to March 1946. Upon his return to Canada, he worked for the City of Niagara Falls for 25 years as an equipment operator, and was very involved in the local labour movement. He later went on to work for Frontier Ford and then Paul Foy Pontiac Buick before retiring.
