MANELLA, NED E. - Vice President of Cristoforo Colombo Society Ned E. Manella 61, of Hyde Park Blvd., Niagara Falls, NY. died peacefully Saturday June 5, 2004 Mt. St. Mary's Hospital, Lewiston, NY after a lengthy illness, under the care of his sister Dolly and Niagara Hospice. He was born in Niagara Falls, Ontario, Canada on January 31, 1943 to Nazzareno and Frances (nee Calabratta) Manella. A roofer by trade he owned and operated J & M Construction, a construction firm specializing in roofing and siding in Niagara Falls for over twenty years until his retirement in 2002 due to illness. An active member of the Cristoforo Colombo Society, Ned served on many committees and held several offices and has served as Vice President since 1998. In 1996 he was awarded the Distinguished Service Award by the Society for his Outstanding Service. His pastimes include Winemaking, Games of Chance, Hunting, and Fishing for which he has accrued several trophies over the years. He also enjoyed spending time at his retreat in the Southern Tier enjoying the scenery and observing the wildlife. His survivors include a son; James Manella, of Niagara Falls, NY., a daughter; Lisa (Frank) Celeste of Niagara Falls, NY., four grandchildren Anthony, Alexandra, Vincent, and Sydney, two sisters; Carmella "Dolly" (late Robert) Hartwig of Niagara Falls, NY., Rose (John) Rustkoff of Niagara Falls, Ont., two brothers; Dominic (Marie) Manella, and Frank (late Thelma) Manella both of Niagara Falls, Ont., and several nieces and nephews. Mr. Manella was predeceased by his parents. The family will be present to receive friends Tuesday evening 6-8 PM at the Spallino-Amigone Funeral Home, 1300 Pine Avenue, Niagara Falls, NY. where Funeral Services will follow at 8:00 PM. Rev. Duane R. Klizek, officiating. Burial will be Thursday morning at 10:00 AM in Fairview Cemetery Stanley Ave, & Bridge Street, Niagara Falls, Ontario. Friends invited.
