Born on April 9, 1941, in Saint John, NB, she was the daughter of Inez Eileen (Dalton) Harmer and the late Cerdic Russell Harmer. Growing up mainly in Moncton, NB, Colleen proved early on to be a talented Artist. She was self taught and was drawing, painting, and selling her work by the age of eleven. In 1953 at age twelve she was presented with the Best Talent Award by a local Moncton TV station and went on to regularly appear with Arlene Holder on afternoon TV talk shows, where she was requested to draw fashions for the viewers. She married Jeffrey Norman Fenwick in 1968 and raised four children while studying and producing wonderful works of art. She studied oils with Helen Van Wyk of Boston, USA , and had watercolor workshops with Zolton Szabo of Toronto, Nita Engle of Northern Michigan, USA, and Arleta Pech of Arvada, Colorado. Colleen was an energetic and sensitive working artist whose work displayed a romantic view of our world, and raised her subject matter above the harried rush of every day life. Her painting style has been described as romantic realism. Her work was exhibited in many galleries in the Halifax region, including Carriage House Gallery in Wolfville. From 1985 on, she also studied pastels and watercolor. Colleen was not only an Artist but also a teacher, giving Oil Painting classes, through Continuing Education, at night for 14 years, from 1975 to 1989. She then went on to teach from her private studio in Beaver Bank, giving private classes and also holding many workshops for community Art groups for more than 15 years. She was elected into the Canadian Society Painters in Watercolor in November 2002, (CSPWC) and was the recipient of the Wittnauer International Award in Open Water in Toronto, 2003. Colleen was well known for her works in oil, of children and in watercolor, of floral paintings. Colleen was a wonderful daughter, wife, sister, mother, grandmother, and friend. She gave something of herself to everyone she knew. She will be dearly missed by everyone that became a part of her life. Colleen is survived by her loving husband of 38 years, Jeffrey, her mother, Inez Harmer, two brothers, Lawrence Harmer and Gary Harmer, two sisters, Sharon Carmichael and Sandra Hickman, all of whom live in Moncton, NB; sons Harold (Janice), Beaver Bank; Robb (Kim), Eastern Passage; daughters, Kimberly, Niagara Falls; Tammy, Edmonton; grandsons, Travis, Tyler, Dakota, Kyle; granddaughter, Chelsea.
