KEAST, Robert James - Peacefully at the Meaford General Hospital on Thursday, August 24, 2006. Robert “Bob“ Keast, a life long resident of Thornbury, son of the late George and May Keast (nee McCloskey), passed away at the age of 81 years, and after a courageous battle with cancer. Beloved husband of the late Eva Keast (nee Paterson) and loving father of Ted (Mireille), Jim (Susie), and Stephen (Mary). Devoted grandfather of Jesse and Hailey, and Valerie and Jeremy. Dear brother of Bill Keast of Vancouver. Bob was devoted to his family and his community. After serving with the RCAF and later with the Canadian Army during WWII, he returned to his work at Davidson's Furniture and Funeral Home in Thornbury. Bob took over the family business, Keast Men's Wear, in 1963 where he continued to serve the community until his retirement in 1987. Over the years, Bob served as a Town Councilor and Mayor of Thornbury as well as serving on the Fire Department and School Board. Bob was a Past President of the Beaver Valley Legion Branch 281 and a Past Master of the Beaver Valley Masonic Lodge #234. He was one of the original members of the Niagara Escarpment Commission and also served on the Beaver Valley Planning Board and Grey County Land Division Committee. Bob was a past Chair of the Meaford General Hospital Foundation and served many years on the Thornbury-Clarksburg Union Cemetery Board. In accordance with Bob's wishes, there will be no public visitation. Friends are invited to celebrate Bob's life at funeral and committal services, officiated by Reverend Canon Ben Burry, to be conducted at St. George's Anglican Church in Clarksburg on Monday, August 28, 2006 at 11 a.m. A family service of interment will follow at Thornbury- Clarksburg Union Cemetery. As your expression of sympathy, donations to the Meaford General Hospital Foundation would be appreciated and may be made through the FERGUSON FUNERAL HOME, The Valley Chapel, (519-599-2718 or PO Box 556, Thornbury N0H 2P0) to whom arrangements have been entrusted. 10315581 Saturday, August 26, 2006
