REID, HAROLD K. - Harold K. Reid, 84, of Veterans Health Centre, and formerly of Metcalf Street, Moncton passed away at his residence on Tuesday August 22, 2006 after a lengthy illness. Born in Moncton, Harold was the son of the late Leslie K. and Elizabeth (Rae) Reid. Harold was a Locomotive Engineer with Canadian National Railways, retiring in 1980 with 37 years service. He was a member o St. John's United Church and a veteran of the Second World War, in which he served overseas with the Second Armoured Regiment. He was a longtime member of Moncton Branch No. 6 Royal Canadian Legion and served as Service Officer for seven years. Harold was always concerned about the welfare of veterans and their families. He enjoyed tinkering with all things mechanical and the call of nature to fly-fish for salmon. Harold will be sadly missed by his daughter Susan Leighton (Robert) of Moncton and his son H. Brian Reid (Linda) of Hampton; grandchildren Mark Reid (Amy) and Laura Reid (Jeffrey Willis) both of Quispamsis, Ryan Leighton of Ottawa, Sarah and Sally Leighton both of Moncton, and great grandsons Aiden and Colton Reid. Sisters Kay Galbraith & Shirley MacLeod of Moncton; sisters-in-law Barbara Reid, Ottawa, ON; Jean Ruggles, Nictaux, NS; and 13 nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife, Annie C. (Nan) (Ruggles) Reid (1993); brother, Jack Reid; sisters, Jean Lewis and Margaret Colburne. Visitation at Ferguson Knowles Funeral Home, 1657 Mountain Road, Moncton (858-1995) Thursday 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. Moncton Legion No. 6 memorial service Thursday 6:45 p.m. Funeral service at St. John's United Church, Alma Street, Friday August 25, 2006, 1:30 p.m., Rev. Aaron Billard officiating. Reception following the service. Interment, Fair Haven Memorial Gardens. In Harold's memory donations to the NB Heart and Stroke Foundation, Canadian Cancer Society, Friends of the Moncton Hospital or memorial of choice would be appreciated by his family.
