COLE (OTTO), BARBARA ANNE - 67, Dartmouth, passed away at home in Dartmouth surrounded by family on Aug 21, 2006. Born in Halifax, April 24, 1939, she is a daughter of the late Howard, "Howie" Otto. Surviving is her mother Freda Otto (Bowes) and her sisters Heather Otto, Nancy Corkum (Steve), her sons Andrew (Carla- expecting) and Scott (Birgit) Cole and grandchild Aidan. Barbara was a registered nurse for almost 50 years, a 1959 graduate of the former St. Rita's Hospital School of Nursing in Sydney, Nova Scotia. Over the intervening years her career included nursing assignments in Lowell Massachusetts (1960), Middleton, Nova Scotia (1962), Sackville, New Brunswick (1963 - 1974), and Dartmouth, Nova Scotia 1975- 2006. At 36 years of age and raising two boys, Barbara went back to school to graduate with a Public Health Degree at Dalhousie University. Her most enjoyable work as a Public Health Nurse was her time spent in Preston. Barbara volunteered and worked extensively with the East Preston Day Care Centre and served on their Board of Directors. She loved traveling, painting, reading, dancing, caring for people, being a great Mom, and having friends around her. Nothing made Mom happier than a walk on the beach at Cow Bay with her family and friends. There will be no visitation by her request. Funeral service will be held 2 PM Friday August 25, 2006 at Christ Church, on the corner of Octerloney St. and Dundas St, Dartmouth with Archdeacon Paul W. Smith officiating. A reception will be held after the service in A. L. Mattatall Funeral Home. Family flowers only, donations may be made to the Barbara Cole Memorial Fund, Attention Susan Casey, The Bank of Nova Scotia, Mic Mac Mall, 21 Mic Mac Blvd., P.O. Box 24099, Dartmouth, N.S., B3A 4T4. All donations will be used for Continuing Education in Childcare in East Preston, a community near and dear to Barbara's heart. The family would like to thank the many friends and extended family for their wonderful support over the past 8 months.
