BURKE, CLARA "LOIS" (SCOTT) (Sept 21, 1921 - Aug 24, 2006) Clara "Lois" Burke, age 84, of Havelock Terrace, Amherst, passed away surrounded by her family on Thursday, August 24, 2006 after a very brief battle with cancer. Born in Pugwash River, she was the daughter of the late George and Eliza (Williams) Scott. In addition to raising 11 children, Lois worked with the N.S. Tourist Bureau (she was really in her element there) and briefly with Sears and Margolians. She was a 25 year member of the C.W.L., volunteered with the V.O.N., the Canadian Cancer Society, the Cumberland County Housing Authority, the Amherst Food Bank, the Red Cross, and the Ladies Hospital Auxiliary and was well known for her keen interest in politics and world affairs. Lois was best known for her free spirit, outspokenness, generosity and her love of family. She was a dedicated wife to Camille, a wonderful mother to all her children and was loved by many. She is survived by daughters, Sandra Hamilton (& David) of Cambridge Narrows, NB, Brenda Stewart (& Garth) of Truro, NS, Wendy White (& Bill) of Shediac, NB, Shelley Burke (& Serge Tanguay) of Oakville, ON, Cindy Hynes (& Jerry) of Fort McMurray, AB, Lisa Burke (& Lee Ann Delaino) of Toronto, ON; sons, Craig (& Holly Hutchinson) of Amherst, Larry (& Debbie) of Berwick, NS, Keith (& Jackie Leppard) of Hubbards, Kevin (& Traci) of Rocanville, SK, & David (& Sheila) of Amherst; sister, Mildred Brownell of Sackville, NB; 23 grandchildren and three great grandchildren. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Camille; a son, Victor; two grandchildren, Lois Ann Hamilton and Nevin Burke; sisters, Iva Langille and Thelma Peers; brothers, Lloyd, Cecil and Russell. Her remains are resting at Furlong's Funeral Home, Amherst with visiting hours Friday from 2 to 4 pm and 7 to 9 pm. Parish prayers will be held at the funeral home at 8 pm on Friday. The Funeral Mass will be held at Saint Charles Roman Catholic Church, Amherst on Saturday at 12:00 Noon with Father Vernon Driscoll officiating. Burial will follow in the Saint Charles Nativity Cemetery with reception after at Saint Charles Hall. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Amherst Food Bank or a charity of your choice.
