
STERLING, Doris Mary (nee Swerdfager) Peacefully in her 98th year, on Friday, August 4, 2006 at Unitarian House. Beloved wife of the late John (Jack) Sterling (1944). Cherished mother of Jacqueline Dixon (John), Longboat Key, Fla., Mary Hennigar (Eric), Perth, John (Alice), Burlington, and Norman (Joan), Ottawa. Devoted grandmother of Steven Dixon (Betsy), Lynn Dixon-Anderson (Gene), Glenn Dixon (Eleri), Heather Driscoll (Tom), Jeff Dixon (Jill), Tim Hennigar (Karin), Dale (Gord) Hennigar (Jo Ann), Kris Benkovich (Rod), Kevin (Tania), Ian (Tanya), Sara Robert (Normand). Loving great-grandma of 26. Dear sister of Douglas Swerdfager of Toronto. Special aunt of John Ashton (Janet) and Doug Ashton (Brenda). Fondly remembered by Janet Sterling. Predeceased by daughter Lois Ann, sister Lois Ashton and brother Leslie Schwerdfager. Good friend of the late Frances Blakely. As a young widow, Doris raised her four children while maintaining a full-time teaching position at Hilson Avenue Public School. She was a longtime member of Westboro United Church and active in the UCW. She volunteered her time and energy to many activities at Unitarian House and the Ottawa community. She treasured her cottage summers with family at Norway Bay, QC. She will be sadly missed by all who knew her. The family wishes to thank the devoted staff of Unitarian House for their loving care. Friends may call at the Westboro Chapel of Tubman Funeral Homes, 403 Richmond Road (at Roosevelt) on Monday from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. A Memorial Service will be held on Tuesday, at Unitarian House, 20 Cleary Avenue (Yellow Room) at 2:00 p.m. Reception to follow.
