OBITUARY LYON KHANER Lyon was born in Montreal on August 16, 1914 to Sophie and Meyer Khaner and died peacefully on July 28, 2006 in Toronto. With Val Khaner he had four children: Tim (Lidia) of Edmonton, Julie of Toronto, Jeffrey (Daniele) of New York and Jamie (Heather) of Orlando, and four grandchildren, Tristan, Tory, Maria and Jacob. As a young man Lyon worked in the small family-run grocery store Marche Populaire alongside his siblings, John and Miriam (both deceased) and Zelda. He graduated in pharmacy in 1936 and opened the Montreal drugstore Kanes, with partner Isidore Kahn. After serving in the RCAF medical branch in World War II, he operated the Kanes chain of pharmacies and established the first big box drug store in Montreal knows as Kane's Super Drug Mart. At the time of his retirement he was an owner of the Apothecary Pharmacies on the West Island. He moved to Toronto in the mid-eighties, to be closer to his family. With his charismatic nature, perpetual smile and caring for all, Lyon embodied all of the best qualities of a trusted healthcare professional. He had the most loyal group of customers one could ever ask for. Lyon was elegant, intellectual, hard working and generous -- one of those people everyone liked and wanted to be around. He was much loved in his extended family, including by his in-laws, the late Sue Khaner (wife of John) , the late Albert Marcus (husband of Miriam) and the late Irving Myers (husband of Zelda). His nieces and nephews, Steven and Myra Khaner, Richard and Willa Marcus and John and Mia Myers, will all remember him as a favourite uncle. Lyon has left his family a wonderful legacy, an impeccable reputation and the respect of his community. Published in the Montreal Gazette on 8/19/2006
