HAMILTON, Alayne J. Died on Sunday, August 27th. Alayne loved her family and her passing is a terrible loss for her husband Rob to whom she was married for 47 years, her son James and his wife Jenni, sister Orma and brother Ron. Alayne was a woman of vision, powerful energy and wisdom. She was known throughout Canada for her pioneering work to end violence in families. She founded the B.C. Violence Against Women in Relationships Committee. She was a founding member and guiding light of the Ending Relationship Abuse Society of BC. She developed and headed the Victoria Family Violence Project, leading with generosity, passion, perseverance and a hearty laugh. She never gave up on people and had the ability to transform lives with her heartfelt belief in the power of honesty and compassion. Gordon Campbell, the Premier of British Columbia, recognized her efforts and impact in a recent letter of commendation. Although Alayne was dedicated to her work, she often could be found enjoying nature by kayaking, hiking, backpacking or travelling the world. When at home, she provided a warm kitchen filled with fragrant aromas, laughs and many friends. Her genuine friendship will be deeply missed by many. At Alayne's request a Buddhist Memorial (Sukhavati) will be held at the Interfaith Chapel at U. Victoria, on Thurs., Aug. 31 at 2 p.m. (Park in lot 6). Alayne requested donations be made to the Victoria Family Violence Project in lieu of flowers and, for those who wish to, please fill in organ donor cards. In these ways her generosity will continue to live. Published in the Ottawa Citizen on 8/29/2006
