SMOLANSKI John Matthew March 13, 1923 - May 6, 2006 On Saturday, May 6, 2006, John Smolanski of Strathmore went to meet his maker at the age of 83 years. John is survived by his wife and sweetheart of sixty years, Helen; children, Joe (Marnie) of Strathmore, John (Bernie) of Drayton Valley, Rose (Bill) Bugbee of Innisfail, Maryann (Barry) Thompson of Breton, Rick (Randy) of Vancouver and Connie (Kevin) Sillito of Claresholm; grandchildren, Owen (Erin), Chad (Amber), Duane (Dawn), Sonja (Tyler), Matthew (Krista), Byron (Raenell), Jennifer (Steven), Lenard (Chris), Steven, Darren (Stephanie), Daniel (Meagan), and Sara; great-grandchildren, Hailey, Josiah, Julian, Jeorgia, Madison and Corbin; and brother, Mike Smolanski of Duchess. John is predeceased by his parents, Anne and Joseph Smolanski, brother Stanley, son-in-law Alvin Ward and two grandchildren. John was born in Poland on March 13, 1923 and immigrated to Canada with his parents at the age of six years. He grew up in the Jenner/Iddesleigh area. On December 1, 1945, he married Helen Brzyski and they moved to Strathmore, raised six children and farmed until 1980 when they sold the farm and moved to Strathmore where John resided until his death. The family wishes to extend heartfelt thanks to Dr. T. Prieur and Dr. B. Walker, as well as the staff in the CCU and Unit 44 at the Peter Lougheed Hospital for their wonderful care and compassion shown to Dad and our family. You are truly "Angels". Prayer Services will be held on Tuesday, May 9, 2006 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Strathmore at 7:30 p.m. A Memorial Mass will be held on Wednesday, May 10, 2006 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church at 11:00 a.m. Private Interment to follow.
