PANES Major (retd) Gabriel C.R. KH, CD2, P Log, pmsc November 1, 1944 - May 24, 2006 Major Panes was born in Toronto and passed away peacefully in Calgary. His nearly fifty-year involvement with the military began in 1957 with the RCEME Cadet Unit. Since 1961, he served in the Cdn. Air Force, US Marine Corps, Cdn. Army Reserve and the Cadet Instructor Corps. He retired from Cdn. Army Primary Reserve in 1999. Amongst his many awards was the Queen's Jubilee Medal. "Gabe" graduated from the U of A with honors in Local Government Studies, from the Cdn. Military Staff College, and the Cdn. Logistics Institute. Over his lifetime he held various positions with Alberta Army Cadet League, Hospitaller Order of St. John's, American Legion and Royal Canadian Legion. He loved the Calgary Stampede and was a dedicated thirty-year volunteer. Gabe is survived by spouse Sheila Kearns, son Stephen, daughter Kimberley Hanney (Andrew) of Calgary; sister Marilyn Hodgins (Ewart), North Carolina; and his constant companion, Teddy. Memorial Services, Saturday, June 10, St. James Catholic Church, 5504 - 20 Street S.W., 1:00 p.m. Interment - Field of Honour, Mountain View Memorial Gardens, 17 Avenue S.E. and Garden Road. Donations in lieu of flowers to MS Society, Calgary Chapter, 100, 2421 - 37 Avenue N.E., T2E 6Y7 or SPCA, 4455 - 110 Avenue S.E., T2C 2T7. Arrangements entrusted to PIERSON'S FUNERAL SERVICE.
