STEWART Crawford (Charlie) Chapman December 11, 1919 - June 21, 2006 Born: Rothesay, Isle of Bute, Scotland. Sadly missed by his wife Isabel Stewart, Sidney, B.C.; son Charlie (Christine) Stewart, Calgary, Alberta; granddaughters, Emilie and Brigitte Stewart, Calgary, Alberta; daughter, Elaine (Cal) Todd, North Saanich, B.C.; and sister Molly Hunt, Edinburgh, Scotland. Charlie served in the British Royal Navy (1935 to 1937 and 1939 to 1946) and the Merchant Navy (1937 to 1939). He immigrated to Calgary with his young family in 1954 where he enjoyed a full life including many years of dedicated service to the Calgary United Soccer Association. Charlie was very well known in the construction industry in the city having worked as a Superintendent at both the Automatic Sprinkler Co. and Steeplejack Services. He spent many years with friends at the Danish Canadian Club before fulfilling his dream of returning to the sea. He spent his retirement years on his sailboat "Sheena" cruising the Gulf Islands with new friends from Sidney North Saanich Yacht Club. Charlie will be remembered by all who knew him as a Scottish character with twinkling eyes and tall tales. As his granddaughter Bibi wrote, "Life has ended for a loved one but his energy is still vibrant in all of us." In lieu of flowers, etc. donations can be forwarded to the Royal National Lifeboat Institution at RNLI Headquarters, West Quay Road, Poole, Dorset BHI5 1HZ, United Kingdom. A family gathering will be taking place in mid-summer.
