SUTHERLAND, Evelyn Margaret - 87 years. The family announces with sorrow the passing of their matriarch at the St. Joseph Health Centre, July 5th. Husband John predeceased in 1994. Sadly missed by son Jim (wife Marylou), grandsons Bob (wife Betty), of Sudbury, Derek (wife Kim) of Midland, great grandsons, Tom, Christopher and Max, niece and nephew Janice Kowal (husband Bob), Gordon Crawford (wife Christine) of Peterborough, nieces Marilyn Barber of Ottawa and Linda Smith (husband Terry) of Grimsby. Born in Stayner, Ontario, Evelyn met and married the love of her life John, in Toronto in 1936. They sojourned through life together for 58 happy years, living in Toronto, Winnipeg, Wallaceburg, and Detroit as John plied his skills in the Sugar business. They moved to Sudbury in 1983 to be close to son Jim and family. Although blind for may years she learned to read in Braille and loved to crochet and cook. A stay at home wife, Evelyn felt family was most important above all else. She cherished family gatherings and was proud of their accomplishments. The sounds and feelings of nature were like music to her ears, especially the birds in the Spring and a fresh summer breeze on her face. As a staunch believer in an undivided Canada, she never failed to exercise her franchise at election time. She supported the Toronto Blue Jays and Maple Leafs with great passion.
