McGIRR JOHN EDWARD March 14, 1925 - July 6, 2006 John Edward McGirr, beloved husband of Christina, passed away at home July 6, 2006 at the age of 81 years. John was born March 14, 1925 in Calgary, Alberta and resided in Calgary all of his life. John is survived by his loving wife Christina of sixty years; three children, Dr. Larry (Dolores) McGirr of Oakville, ON, Dawn (Doug) Mair of Calgary, AB and Marilyn (Allan) Fowler of Calgary, AB; and eight grandchildren, Colin, Brian and Bonnie McGirr, Patrick, Andrew and David Mair and Stephen and Sean Fowler. He also leaves behind his sister Winnifred Stahl of Calgary, AB and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his sister Maureen and brother Robert. John attended Parkhill Elementary, Rideau Park Jr. High and Western Canada High School and lived in the Parkhill community area all his life. During World War II, John served in the Navy on a corvette in the North Atlantic. As his children were growing up, John volunteered as a cub leader and a hockey and baseball coach. He had a love of the outdoors especially camping and hiking and walking the Elbow River with Chris and their dog Max. John worked for the City of Calgary for thirty-two years.
