LAASANEN, Olavi - In loving memory of Olavi (Olli) Laasanen, 64 years of age, who passed away, on Sunday, July 16th, 2006 at his home in Sudbury. Beloved husband of forty years to Mary (Maija) (nee Valimaa). Loving father to his three sons, Paul of Brampton, and David and John at home. Predeceased by his mother Ilmi Pitkakangas (formerly Laasanen) and infant sister Marjatta. Survived by his step-father, Kalle Pitkakangas, and two brothers Juhani Laasanen (wife Hilkka) and Jouni Pitkakangas (wife Tiina) in Finland. He will be much missed by his brothers-in-law Matti Valimaa (partner Tuula) of Lively and Mark Valimaa (fiancée Gert) of Azilda. He is also survived by many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews in Canada, Finland and Sweden. Born in Lappajarvi, Finland . Olavi came to Canada as a young man of 18, and over the years worked at various lumber camps in Northern Ontario, several mining companies and for the last 23 years as a driver for Wavy Ready-Mix. He was a kind gentle man, who loved his family, and had a wonderful sense of humour to the end, even when illness was making life difficult. He took great pride in his Finnish heritage, loved Finnish music and enjoyed having friends out to the camp on Long Lake for a sauna and a swim. Funeral Service in the LOUGHEED FUNERAL HOME, 252 Regent St. (at Hazel St.) on Wednesday, July 19th, 2006 at 11:30 a.m. Pastor Paavo Pinomaa will be officiating. Cremation to follow at Park Lawn Crematorium. Donations to the Canadian Diabetes Association or to St. Matthew's Finnish Lutheran Church would be greatly appreciated.
