
WALSH Elgin Joseph "Red" 1922 - 2006 Elgin Joseph "Red" Walsh of Calgary passed away at the Rockyview General Hospital after a lengthy illness on Sunday, July 16, 2006 at the age of 84 years. Red was born on June 28, 1922, in Morse, Saskatchewan, where he farmed with his family until 1942 when he joined the RCAF. After his discharge in 1945, he was employed by Canadian Pacific Airlines for fourteen years and then worked at Field Aviation until his retirement twenty years later in 1987. He was a member of the Quarter Century Club in Aviation. Red was predeceased by his wife of fifty-nine years, Beryl, in 2003, brothers, Matt and Sheldon and sister Lily Ann Keown. Red is survived by his children, Lanie (Jerry) Kolody, Laurie (Bill) Morrish, Rick Walsh and Rita Leseberg. He is also survived by a brother, Ernie Walsh and a sister, Jean Oshmak, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Red's life was dedicated to his family and friends. He especially enjoyed visiting with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. The Walsh family thanks Dad's Home Care nurses and We Care staff for their support which enabled Dad to live independently for as long as possible. The family also thanks Dr. Pereles, Dr. Chandler and all the nursing staff on Unit 61 for their excellent care and compassion. A Memorial Service will be held at LEYDEN'S FUNERAL HOME, Chapel of Remembrance (17 Avenue and 2 Street S.W., Calgary) on Friday, July 21, 2006 at 3:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Red's memory directly to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Alberta and NWT (200, 119 - 14 Street N.W., Calgary, AB T2N 1Z6).
