SIMMS, MARGARET LILLIAN 1914-2006 In sadness at the loss but in joy for the long and full life she lived, the family of Margaret Lillian Simms announces her death at age 92. Margaret moved to the west coast at the age of 80 to be close to her children and grandchildren in British Columbia and Alberta. More than anything or anyone, she loved her four children, Mary, John (Jane), Margaret and David (Carolyn), and her grandchildren, Karolyn (Tim) and Darren (Holly), Pamela (Wyatt), Michael, Lauren, and Ian. She was surprised and overjoyed late in her life to be blessed by three great-grandchildren, Garrett, Gavin, and Sarah. Margaret Simms was born in Woodstock, New Brunswick but lived the early years of her life in Alliance, Alberta where her father is buried. For most of her life she lived in Fredericton, New Brunswick, married to Charles Leonard Simms, a teacher and businessman who predeceased her in 1983. She is survived by a sister, Evelyn Dickinson, of Hartland, New Brunswick, a nephew, Bob Smith in Fredericton, and a niece, Carole Montgomery in Woodstock as well as other several other nieces and nephews living in New Brunswick and Nova Scotia. Margaret was a life-long active member of Wilmont United Church in Fredericton and stayed in touch with her friends there even after moving to British Columbia. She was also an active member of the IODE and loved to play golf until Parkinson's prevented her from taking the long golf course walks she loved so much at the Fredericton Golf Club. She was an avid contract Bridge player with her husband, Charlie, and continued to play Bridge until she could no longer hold the cards. Her children remember her as a loving, gentle mother who enjoyed cooking wonderful meals for her family and even after being immobilized by Parkinson's loved nothing better than to go out for a meal with her kids, her grandkids and then with her great-grandkids. Memorial services were held at Queen's Park Care Centre at 315 McBride Boulevard, New Westminister, B.C. Interment will be held at the Fredericton Rural Cemetery at a later date. [The Daily Gleaner]
