
George Barbu May 17, 1917 - August 29, 2006 BARBU, George Sr. - Peacefully, after a lengthy illness, at the Hollywood Memorial Hospital in Hollywood, Florida on Tuesday, August 29, 2006, at the age of 89. Beloved husband of Mary Ivanoff Barbu and predeceased by Jean (1995) nee Belitsky, his wife of 52 years. Cherished father of George and his wife Anne and daughters Danielle and Shelley and Betty Anne and her husband Al Dennis and sons Robert and Samuel. Remembered fondly by the Ivanoff family. Survived by his sister Helen (the late George) Bulick and sister-in-law Emily (the late Sam) Iannuzzi. Sadly missed by many nieces, nephews, family and friends in Canada, Florida and Yugoslavia. Born in Yugoslavia, George immigrated to Canada in 1929 with his family, settling down in Regina, SASK. Then moved to Hamilton where George became involved with and was a longtime member of the Holy Resurrection Romanian Orthodox Church in Hamilton. He helped with the building of the current church structure on MacNab Street. George was an avid artist. He was known for his unique Christmas cards he sent to many family and friends. Due to his declining health, George turned from using a paint brush to a pen and became a talented and creative calligrapher. Funeral Service will be offered at Holy Resurrection Romanian Orthodox Church on Wednesday at 10:30. Burial at Woodland Cemetery.
