
TURKSMA, Rev. Jacob “Jake“ - Passed away on Saturday, September 2, 2006, after a courageous battle with cancer. Age 58 years. He was born October 25, 1947 in the Netherlands, to the late Jakob and Zwaantje (Denekamp) Turksma. He immigrated with his family to Canada in 1954 and grew up in Cornwall, ON. He graduated from CCVS and the University of Toronto with a Bachelor of Science degree. Rev. Jake Turksma was a minister with the Independent Assemblies of God Int'l. (Canada) since 1976. He faithfully served the I.A.O.G. (Canada) as Assistant General Secretary and Regional Secretary Maritimes. He founded the Living Word Fellowship in Beaconsfield in 1978, which he pastored until his death. Jake is survived by his wife, Ada (Holleman), his son, Aaron (Amanda) and three grandchildren, Joshua, Alexander and Hayley, of Bridgetown; three sisters, Wilma (Bob) Skafte of Beaconsfield, Edda (Harrison) Kinney of Ottawa, ON, and Dora (John) Goodfellow of Cornwall, ON. He is further survived by a nephew, nieces and many relatives. Interment was at Hampton Cemetery with family only in attendance on Monday, September 4, 2006. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 pm, Saturday, September 9, at the Bridgetown Baptist Church. Rev. George Neily will officiate and his nephew Rev. Jack Skafte will deliver the eulogy. Memorial donations may be made to the Living Word Fellowship for Christian Aid Mission. 10331116
