Robert "Bobby" Eugene Quaye On Thursday September 7, 2006 Robert passed away at Concordia Hospital after a lengthy battle with many illnesses at the age of 64. He is survived by his children Darren (Lily), Teresa (Chris) and Paul (Lisa); grandchildren, Danielle, Matthew, Zachary and Andrew; sister Suzie (Al); nephew Chandler and great nephew Tyler; special niece Michelle and nephews Adam and Aaron; as well as numerous aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his former wife Elsie (Lynne) in 2003; mother Grace in 1978 and father John in 1982. He is also survived by his loving friend Mary Sveinson with whom he has spent the last few years. Bob was born in Winnipeg on June 3, 1942 and grew to be a solid and loving family man with a legendary sense of humour, as well as a respected businessman. Beginning in his early years, he delivered prescriptions on his bicycle for Talbot Pharmacy. From those humble beginnings, and with the assistance of family, Bob helped grow this small venture, through a couple incarnations, into Quaye’s Delivery Inc. – a respected courier company in the city, which still operates today. The business during his years with the company was at the core of his values, instilling a solid work ethic in his children, while promoting the importance of family. Until a few years ago a long-time resident of East Elmwood, he also had time for working with the community through his volunteering and participation in various events at East Elmwood Community Club as well as with the Old-Timers Hockey team. Later in life his love of golf became a passion, as he spent many Sundays with his friends, most recently at Tuxedo Golf Course. He also enjoyed attending Winnipeg Jets games during their tenure in the city as well as Winnipeg Goldeyes Baseball games in the latter years. The family would like to extend special acknowledgements to life-long friend Fred for his assistance during the last few years and to the staff of homecare workers who tirelessly assisted to retain his remaining independence at home until his last days. A casual “come-and-go” celebration of Bob’s life will be held on Tuesday September 12, 2006 from 6 – 8 p.m. at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main Street. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Bob’s memory to the Juvenile Diabetes Foundation or the charity of your choice. CROPO FUNERAL CHAPEL 586-8044 As published in the WINNIPEG SUN
