Jan "John" Heeringa January 26, 1910 - September 12, 2006 Called home by his Creator and Saviour in his 97th year, at Shalom Manor in Grimsby, Ontario on Tuesday, September 12, 2006. John will be greatly missed by his beloved family, Marie Heeringa (nee ten Hoor), his wife of 37 years, his sons Jerry (Ria) of Stoney Creek, Cas (Fran) of Dundas, Jake (Karen) of Puslinch, his brother Henk (Nettie) of Brampton and his step-daughter Christine Stonehouse and Darcy of Toronto. His many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and his one great-great grandchild will also lovingly remember their Opa. Predeceased by Jeltje Heeringa (nee Prins), his wife of thirty years, his only daughter Tilly Werder, one brother in Canada and four brothers in The Netherlands. In 1952 Mr. Heeringa brought his family to Canada and together with his brother established and operated Heeringa Brothers Construction Ltd., until his retirement in later life. He contributed much of his time in the Christian retirement community as one of the founders of Marantha Homes in Burlington where he remained as a member of the Board well into his retirement years. John's favourite Bible passage was Psalm 100 where he liked to put emphasis on the words, "Enter His gates with thanksgiving and His courts with praise"; reality for him now at the end of his life here. Visitation at the KITCHING, STEEPE & LUDWIG FUNERAL HOME, 146 Mill Street North, Waterdown on Thursday evening from 7-9 p.m. A Family Interment Service will be held at Mount Zion Cemetery, Copetown prior to a Public Memorial Service at BETHEL CHRISTIAN REFORMED CHURCH, (Dundas St. and Kerns Rd.), Burlington on Friday , September 15, 2006 at 11 a.m. Reception to follow in the church hall. In memory of John donations may be made to Shalom Manor. The family extends heartfelt thanks to the staff at Shalom Manor for the wonderful, warm, loving care extended to John during the final six months of his life.
