ROWAN, DONALD FREDERICK - The death of Prof. Donald Frederick Rowan of Fredericton, N.B. occurred at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Hospital on Tuesday, September 12, 2006. He was the only son of the late Bessie Coombes and Frederick Rowan of Fredericton, N.B. He was pre deceased in 2000 by his wife of fifty years, Mildred Emily Cochran. He is survived by his second wife Carolyn Cole Rowan of Toronto, Ontario; his son, Donald Rowan (Kathy Boast) of Fredericton, N.B.; his son, Peter Rowan of Fredericton, N.B.; his step sister, Charlotte "Peggy" Pitt; his brother-in-law, Robert Cochran of Kingston, N.B. and his brother-in-law, Charles "Todd" Cochran and his sister-in-law, Elva Cochran of Bloomfield, N.B.; his grandson, Daniel Rowan LaForest of Ottawa, Ontario; and many fine nieces and nephews and their children. Professor Rowan was a veteran of the Second World War, serving in the U.S. Army Air Corps. He was a graduate of the University of New Brunswick and of Cambridge University. He was an officer of the RCAF. He was a member of the Faculty of English at the University of New Brunswick from 1960 to his retirement in 1990. He was an eminent Elizabethan scholar and a teacher of great ability. He had many good friends and led an interesting life. He loved his family and his little dogs a great deal. He will be greatly missed. There will be a visitation at the J.A. McAdam Funeral Home, 160 York Street in Fredericton (458-9170) on Friday, September 15, 2006 from 2:00 to 4:00 in the afternoon and from 6:00 to 8:00 in the evening. There will be a memorial service at the J.A. McAdam Memorial Chapel on York Street in Fredericton on Saturday, September 16, 2006 at one p.m. followed by internment in the Lower Lincoln Cemetery.
