Arthur Gionet 1924-2006 Arthur Gionet peacefully passed away at The Moncton Hospital on Saturday, September 16th, 2006. Born in Lincoln, New Hampshire, USA, March 30th 1924, he was the son of the late Richard and Malvina (Godin) Gionet. With his new bride Berthe (Cormier) he moved to Marathon, Ontario in 1947 and worked as a carpenter with the pulp and paper mill until his retirement in 1987. Arthur was heavily involved with his church and was a member of the Knights of Columbus. He was a very good father and loving husband. Arthur enjoyed good times with his friends and family. Arthur was also an avid camper and loved the outdoors. Both Arthur and Berthe enjoyed many winters at their home in Florida. With his family and friends Arthur spoke often of the good days he and Berthe had in Marathon. Arthur will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by his wife, Berthe of Moncton; sons, Pierre of Moncton and Roger of Ottawa. Arthur leaves behind three brothers, Normand and Eudore of Bertrand NB, as well as Victor of Blind River Ontario; he also leaves behind his three loving sisters, Pauline and Rita of Montréal and Juliette of Tracadie, NB several brothers and sisters-in-laws, and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Arthur was predeceased by his son, Robert (Carol Hunt) of Winnipeg, Manitoba. Arthur's strong faith was a comfort to him during his battle with cancer. With deep respect for Arthur's wishes, there will be no visitation prior to the Funeral Mass to be held at St. Joachim Roman Catholic Church Grand Anse, NB, at 2:00 PM on Friday, September 22, 2006. Interment in Bertrand Cemetery. Donations to the Canadian Cancer Society would be appreciated. Funeral arrangements entrusted to Fair Haven Funeral Home, 1177 Salisbury Road, Moncton (506) 852-3530.
