GENDERS, Alan 'Al'- On Wednesday, February 18, 2004 at the Greater Niagara General Hospital at the age of 72. Al is the beloved husband of the late Shirley (nee Kavanaugh)-1996 and Irene Genders (nee McNally, and loving father of Wayne (Dianne) Genders of Niagara Falls and Karen (Bert) VanGinkel of Wainfleet and step-father of many. Grandpa will be missed by Wade and Olivia Genders and Robert, Amanda & Mathew VanGinkel, as well as his many step-grandchildren. Al is survived by his brothers Dave (Sherry), John & Bernard and his sisters Alice (Bill) and Jean (Merritt). He will be lovingly remembered by his many nieces and nephews. After returning home as a Veteran of the Korea War, Al worked at Canada Post, then went on to spend many years with Gunning Oil. He later opened & retired from Crestway Motors where he could fix anything as a 'Jack Of All Trades.' Al was a member of the 3rd Degree Knights of Columbus Hennepin Council # 1652 and a member of the Korea Veterans Association as well as the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 51. Friends are invited to call at the Patterson Funeral Home, 6062 Main St, Niagara Falls for visiting on Thursday, from 7-9p.m. and on Friday from 2-4 & 7-9p.m. A Royal Canadian Legion Service will take place on Friday at 7p.m. & Vigil Prayers will follow at 7:30p.m. with members of the Knights of Columbus Hennepin Council # 1652 attending. A Funeral Mass for Al will be celebrated on Saturday, February 21, 2004 at 11:30a.m., at St. Thomas More Church, with the Rite of Committal following in Fairview Cemetery.
